The top 3 hmmm 1. Convincing people that global warming is a natural cycle, so that we don't mess up the world trying to fix something natural. 2. Obama destroying the USA economy with his financial give away plans./ the US financial collapse of the dollar will have a world wide effect on the global economy. 3. Fighting wars that we can not possibly win, in places that we should never be. All of these issues have a global effect ..

I am not sure what kind of research paper you are writing but maybe you could try to take a slightly different approach to the current way of talking about the environment: you could try to show how there really is only ONE ecological issue!
Pollution and greenhouse effect causing global warming and climatic disasters due to climate change; waste and overflowing landfills destroying natural habitats and causing soil pollution, possible contamination of water reserves; CO2 emissions causing acid rain destroying forests; the disappearance of plant and animal species...
These are all 'different' symptoms of ONE big problem, the dramatic changes in our environment which, ultimately, will make earth a planet which will be inhospitable to human beings... It will not be the end of the world, but it will be the end of a world with human beings in it!

to my understanding global warming is too much for just one
paper - many books need to be written in order to give a fair
picture of the world-wide situation.
if i was walking in your shoes, i'd specialize on one aspect
only, like
the destruction of coral reefs
iceland and its glaciers
the crumbling of the alps and the beginning crumbling of the
rockies
etc
