How is it that people can be literate enough to use computers but some how missed basic math in school? RE: -?
I am constantly seeing questions on here like "How do I figure out the square footage of my room" Is the education in the USA so poor that we do not teach these basics. I for one do not think it is but how do they graduate how is it they miss this stuff.

It's not because we don't teach the stuff. It's because kids these days are lazy and used to the easy way, so they don't want to do their own work. Why do the work when someone else can do it for them?

It's not always not knowing, I think it's often about being too lazy to think it out for themselves.
I get more concerned about the questions that showcase the hideously low standard of literacy in schools - I'm dyslexic, so when I am the better speller on any page I get worried.
Grammer is clearly dead for most people too. I'd like to see much more attention paid to the putting together of written work in the education system.

I think it is more about being too lazy to figure it out. That and also second guessing yourself.
But yeah, some schools are that bad. Teachers spend 30 minutes trying to get kids to sit down and listen and they then have 10 minutes to teach. YOU do the math!!!!

Maybe they know the formula but they don't know how to implementing it!
