Error message on start-up for Windows XP.?
Upon start-up of my computer, I get an error message that states, "STOP : 0000221 Bad Image Checksum. The image wininet.dll is possibly corrupt. Header doesn't match the completed checksum."
I can't get to the log-in screen. I've rebooted. When I turn it on, the Microsoft Windows XP screen comes on, then goes to the above message, with a blue background, and continually repeats the cycle.

This problem may occur if the file is corrupted.
The following files are checked for integrity when Microsoft Windows XP starts:
All driver files (except those that are loaded by the system loader to start. the computer)
All dynamic-link libraries (DLLs), including User, Graphics Device Interface (GDI), Shell, Kernel, Ntdll, Crtdll, and others.
This problem may occur if you install an inappropriate driver for your hardware.
use Registry Easy fix it

The IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL indicates a problem with hardware. Most likely it's a device or device driver causing the issue. If you've just recently added new hardware (this could be anything, a printer, keyboard, wireless adapter, etc.) remove it and see if you still get it. If you haven't added new hardware and it seems to have started crashing for no apparent reason, then possibly a device driver got corrupted, or a device got damaged due to heat or a power surge. So if you haven't added new hardware recently, start by removing all external devices except your keyboard and mouse and see if it still crashes. If not, start adding back devices one at a time to see if you can find the culprit. If it still crashes with only the keyboard, mouse, and monitor hooked up, it's time to open the case and yank all expansion cards except the video card. (Make sure you power off your computer first! :) )If you pull all the cards and it still crashes, see if you can find another keyboard and mouse to swap with. If it still crashes, the next thing to try is a different power supply, if you can get your hands on one. (This could be tricky, as Dell uses proprietary power supplies, which means you'll have to get an official Dell model.) If that still doesn't solve the problem, the next thing to try is a windows reinstall. If it still crashes after that, it's very likely a problem with your motherboard, which means a new one. Depending on various things like the age and model of your computer, it may actually be cheaper to buy a new Dell than replace your motherboard.

The .dll's are important to run windows, they're like its gears. So when it says that the wininet.dll is possibly corrupt, then it might be missing, i've had this problem myself. If your operating system has system restore, use it. If not, then if you have another computer search for the missing dll, copy it, then paste it into the system files on your OS hard drive.

As soon as you turn your computer power on, keep mashing the f8 key continuously untill it beeps and a selection thingy shows up. Select "boot in safe mode" and it will work. Then once you're on go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore, and chose a date before this happened... whala, fixed

Unless your computer comes with a XP preinstall on it your screwed, When your computer boots up spam F8 and see if you get any options for windows xp recovery. If not you will have to reinstall XP.
