why has my dog started barking at nothing?

I've had a beagle for ever 6 years now and just lately hes been barking at around night for no reason. He'll suddenly wake up, look at nothing in particular, and start barking. Or he'll be walking in the hallway and then start barking

At first we thought it was because he was going blind (hes 13 now). but he never bumps into anything and doesn't seem to have trouble seeing.

This has been happening for over two months now. Anyone know why?

My dogs bark at everything too! They are aged 3 and 4, but the barking is easily taken care of if I walk them around the block. You can try walking your dog more. Walking helps them to get outside and relieve any stress or boredom that is built up inside them as those can lead to annoying habits such as barking. You could also check with your vet to see if there may be any underlying causes behind why your dog may be barking. Hope this helps!

It very well could be him going blind. Maybe his hearing is going too and that's throwing him off. My dog is much younger and for awhile I thought he was barking at nothing in the middle of the night but it turned out he was getting freaked out by his reflection in a mirror across from the bed. So keep your eyes open for a pattern in his barking to see if something you would never think of is bothering him. Or you could take him in to the vet to see if the vet has any ideas. Good luck.. I know how frustrating the senseless barking can be!

dogs have a very sharp hearing, a noise from miles away that you may not be able to hear, can be heard by a dog, i wouldn't worry about it though, my dogs does that too. Also, the hallway thing, might just be a phobia of hallways, which is common for dogs to have. 5 out of the last 7 dogs i've had had it. Dogs do have poor vision too and six years old is pretty young for a dog.

Your dog is familiar with the inside of your home, which is more than likely why you don't see him bump into anything. However, he is trying to compensate for his loss of sight. So he might hear something and when he is physically unable to see something will start to bark to scare it away.

I'd have your vet look at your dog to see how blind he is.

Every dog needs some type of training. The first class I ever took a dog to was https://tr.im/gHn00

It's a very basic kind of class. They will help you with your dog, and show you how to work with your dog at home.

They'll also answer any questions you have about your dog's particular problems and how to handle them. The most important thing in dog training is to be consistent and work with your dog at home on the lessons. The PetSmart class teaches sit, down, come, and the very basics every dog needs to know. They will also help socialize your dog. You are unhappy with an untrained dog, and believe it or not, the dog is actually unhappy to. You need to take your dog now, as the older he gets, the harder it will be to correct your dog's bad habits. Plus the classes are fun for you and your dog. My dog went from that first PetSmart class on to advanced obedience classes. You might also contact your local humane society. The one in my area offers obedience classes with a very good trainer at a reduced price.

She isn't barking at no longer something. She the two sees, smells, or hears something. while my dogs does this and that i do no longer understand what he's barking at, I pretend I see it and say something like 'definite, I see. stable activity." I additionally use a hand sign that he recognizes as "all performed" or "all long gone". supply her a puppy and walk away. She'll think of she did her activity.

He could see something that you cannot see at all. Like a ghost. He could be scaring it away. He might want 2 cuddle with u. Question, does he sleep with you? Try letting him sleep with you if not. Tell him it's okay and calm him. Like getting smooth music, water, fresh food, fine light, and stay up with him. It might help. Try ghost hunters. They can tell with equipment if there's a ghost. If not, take him to the vet,
