Yes he could have. But I don't believe Jesus was a magician... or even a real human. He appears to have been put together from a number of different religious fairy tales that were popular at the time.

As for the stories of his miracles, pure myth, tall tales and legend. The kind of thing that happens when a story is passed down verbally over many generations... it gets wilder each time.

I do agree however that if Darren Brown was around 2000 years ago doing the same tricks, than people would think he was performing miracles. Perhaps Jesus was nothing more than a talented magician.

If I'm reading this right, you are asking if Jesus might have been a trixter too. Personally, I reckon Jesus was grossly misrepresented by Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Nicaea. I reckon he was just a charismatic philosopher who rejected the dogma of the cult of YHWH, and gained a following by standing up to it. Then he got shoe-horned into Isaiah's messiah role.

Still, he probably doesn't mind on account of being dead.
