Moving To Forth Worth, Texas?
I am Canadian, and I live in Alberta. I have lived here my entire life, and I am considering temporarily moving to Greater Dallas on a green card.
Can anyone give me some information and tips, WITHOUT giving me any links? I have read Wikipedia and stuff already. I just want local insider stuff. What should a Canadian guy know about moving to Greater Dallas?
All information is appreciated. Greetings from the Great White North!
Hmmm... very different from Canada.
Here, it is cold from November to February. October, March, and April have periods of cold as well.
I can tell, kellifromkeller, you don't know very much about the culture here.
Let's start with the fact that we don't understand Fahrenheit, except for the old people.

Hi
I have met and become friends with a few people from Alberta and as a native and nearly lifelong Texan, I can say there's a good chance you will be pretty comfortable here. Texans and Western Canadians seem to be a lot alike. Hockey has become very popular in this part of Texas too so that may help you feel more at home.
Weather is likely the biggest adjustment you'll have to make, the heat can be pretty unbearable for those not used to it.
It's a very large metropolitan area with lots to see and do. I'm not sure what your exact interests or concerns might be so I hope this helps a little. Greetings back to y'all (get used to that) and the Welcome Mat is out in Big D!

The most important thing you should know: It's HOT. Like REALLY hot. Like Satan prolly couldn't handle this kind of heat. And it's hot for 6-7 months out of the year.
Othar than that, everyone here is really friendly, and the cost of living is pretty cheap, depending on what area of the metroplex you live in.
There's quite a bit of difference between Dallas and Ft Worth. In general, Ft Worth is more relaxed and a little more family-oriented, whereas Dallas is more active, more big-city, and more expensive. There are also tons of nice suburbs if you're looking for that.

haha well here it is hot from January to December with a few days of cold... Friday it was 80, Saturday it was back down to 40 and now we are supposed to have a "wintery mix" which mean that rain could freeze and turn to sleet or sneet (snow/sleet)
it can get to the 1 teens and is very humid in the summer
i don't know much about the culture in Alberta so i can't tell you any cultural differences

The weather is going to be different.
Most people here are friendly.
There are good and bad parts of town, we don't have a good public transportation system, you will probably need a car.
This is a big area with lots of people.
If you have a particular question ask.
