WD 40 is merely a hydrocarbon making it just an irritant to mucous membranes. Your friend will be fine no need to go to the hospital just drink some fluid. If he continues to have "symptoms" its all in his head.

Thanks so much for all the information. Some of it we knew about, but the shower door is a must try! I've tried all kinds of products on the shelf, vinegar, alcohol, etc. I am about to try Purple Power, baking soda and WD-40 (separately). We've tried for years to get the water residue from the shower door and the only thing that I find works is scraping my fingernails over it (not very efficient).

He's gonna be ok.Ask a mechanic if he ever got sick because he had grease on HIS hand's.As far as biting his nail's,maybe he should switch to tacks. There not as long,so stomach upset will be minimal.

it probably isn't enough to do any damage, but if he is that worried, call poison control.
