Problems with the pc... wont boot anymore. (IBM LAPTOP)?

Question

I turn the pc on, and loading comes up, after a few seconds a blue window appears and says:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to protect your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restert your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to checkfor hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

ok, this is what it says, and then vanishes and restarts again. I need to know step by step on how to do what he told me to do! =D

okay, 

first, restart ur pc then open it in normal mode. if the problem isnt big, it should start properly.

if it wont, then consider starting in safe mode. before windows fully loads (the little white lines), press f8. then select safe mode.

once in safe mode, run a check disk.
go to start> run.    a typing box will appear and type chkdsk /f
wait. if nothing happened, then try the complete check disk.
go to start> my computer      right click ur c drive. then select properties. among the tabs, select hardware then click check disk. then restart ur pc. 

if the given option above isnt working (like you cant even access ur pc in safe mode) that means that a major file of ur operating system is corrupted.
to fix problems like this, the only solution would be reinstallin ur windows. 

to reinstall windows, insert ur windows cd into ur drive, then restart. upon restart, enter the bios option then select ur primary boot to cd-rom (to open bios options, press delete after starting ur pc). 
now just start ur pc with ur windows cd in ur cd-rom. you will then be asked "press any key to boot from cd". press any key. follow the instructions until ur os has been succesfully installed. ur pc will then automatically restart. again, upon the new restart, yu will be asked again for this message " press any key to boot from cd". this time dont press. let windows load. voila! ur done.

if reinstall ur windows wont help, try installing first a different operating system. 

like you were originally using windows xp professional edition, try first to install wondows xp home edition then after the successful installation, you may then reinstall windows pro edition. sometimes when a pc crashes, it becomes immune to a certain operating system so it would be better if you ake a little detour.


the solution i gave isnt one hundred percent effective, but atleast it helped solved my problems. booting problems may be lethal to ur pc. if they wont work, then get a new hardware.

You can't just bang a hard drive from one computer into another computer and expect it to work. You have something called HAL (Hardware Abstract Layer) which contains details of all the hardware on you computer. Obviously this HAL cannot work with a totally different set of hardware in another computer. You will have to boot from a Windows installation CD and do a complete install on the second hand computer.

as the pc boots press f8 go into safe mode
then go to run type in CHKDSK /F
then it should do that for you
whilst in safe mode run all your anti virus etc one at a time
and then do a de frag.
or just system restore to a date prior to the error and see if that helps
