Can the Intel Atom 330 Handle playing 1080p H.264 content?
I'm looking to build a cheap low-power HTPC using an atom 330 system. Does it have the processing power to play 1080p HD content smoothly? I do NOT want to use an ATI or nVidia video card to offload the processing, as it is not always compatible with all files.
video cards are not compatible with hardware decoding unless the file is DXVA compliant. Which is fine for blu-ray and HD-DVD's, but for home-grown x264 created content, this is not always the case. Unless you personally have an atom 330 computer, don't answer with what you "think" is possible, because seriously, you're wasting my time.

Not really. An Atom processor is very low-budget, and while it probably could handle 1080p video a little, it's unlikely it'll do it "smoothly" in any form of the word.
And how are video cards not compatible with all files? I think you have had compatibility issues with software on your computer, but I haven't ever heard of a video card not being compatible with a specific file type.

If you want to play top quality looking 1080P you HAVE to get an Nvidia or ATI card. Integrated graphics will work, but you wont get as vibrant colors or as smooth motion as you would from a GPU with video enhancements. Video processing is not handled well by a CPU. There is no such thing as a video card not being compatible with a file type. In my experience the mid range Nvidia cards have the best video processing for the money.
And I doubt an Atom would handle 1080P no matter how good of a video card you purchased. You'd be better off getting a low end AMD or Intel CPU and a decent Nvidia card with HDMI output and HDCP capability, in case you want to upgrade to a Blu Ray drive later on.

that's twin center. you're actually not likely to play something extra suitable than tiny flash video games on a netbook, although. that's max GHz is a million.6. the link suitable below this has all the tips you would be wanting.
