Moving to Okinawa japan,I have a lot of questions.?

One poster mentioned trains....there are no trains on Okinawa; only on the mainland of japan are there trains. Okinawa does have a monorail in the capital city of Naha, but that's it. The only way to get around is by bus, taxi, or your own car (which you can by there if authorized).

If you are a Navy corpsman, you will be at Camp Foster...a US military facility and 99.5% of your patients will be military or military dependents...English speakers. That .5% is for the rare occasion that there is an accident off post that will cause an Okinawan to brought to Foster because it is the closest medical facility.

The island is awesome! As some have said, there is hiking, beaches, scuba, deep sea fishing...pretty much what you would expect on a tropical island.

It depends on what kind of things you need..we have b/x & p/x here but with limited product available..

what do people do for fun?

There are lots of bars (american/japanese),clubs & restaurant (in & out of base) if you want a night fun..& if you're a nature lover there's a lot of fine beaches,scenery & places to go to & can be a very nice experience to have.

how is the liberty?

For the USMC they have a red card & the 'til 2:00 am liberty restrictions (with buddies) & i don't actually know if the Navy have the same restrictions.

Are we gonna be allowed to go to different island?

Yes..as long as it's your off or holidays..you can even go to mainland Japan.

How is the lodging?

If you're single Navy it's the barracks & if you're accompanied there's military housing provided for you & your family.

Whats it like to work with patients at a hospital that dont speak English?

I believe that you're patients will be American active duty & their families that i also believe can speak english & if they don't..well..that sucks..

1 Japan is a very POLITE country, but not extreme, just don't act like a rude arrogant person etc

#2 Try to learn Japanese FOR SURE!!! There are plenty of signs in English, but the majority of the people there prefer to SPEAK IN JAPANESE

#3 There is plenty of fun in Japan such as shopping and dining out

#4 the streets are even spotless of litter and homeless people (from my experience)

#5 People are usually pretty nice, but reserved

#6 YOU WILL BE WALKING A LOT -there are also trains and cars, but the majority of the time you walk from place to place

#7 The lodging is EEEEEXXXPPENSIVE!! Especially with the economy down, Yen has gone up A LOT

#8 and don't forget to enjoy your experience, the country there is amazing-try to visit a temple or two to get a nice background on some of Japan's culture and be sure to explore. Each and every city has it's nooks and crannies filled with surprises!
