Your site's URL is the address you type in to get to the site. For example, Yahoo!'s URL is www.yahoo.com, Google's is www.google.com, etc.

You need to register a domain name like: yourbusinessname.com etc.

A good place to register is at:

    www . directnic . com

Create an account there and register a name for yourself.

Then you need to assign a primary and secondary nameserver.

This will make it so that when your domain name is typed into the browser, the request is sent to where your website is hosted.

Normally, wherever your website is hosted will allow you to point to a particular directory (your website folder) as your "home" directory.

    Example:

Your domain name is registered at Directnic.

Your website is hosted on FastHost.

You "buy" your domain name at Directnic and point it to the nameservers for FastHost. FastHost's nameserver will return the IP address for your "home" web directory when your domain is requested.

Domain names go for about $15 US / year. or less if you pay for more than one year at a time.

REMEMBER: once you have a domain name you have to be sure to not let it expire or you may lose it if its a domain name someonelse wants.
