PITBULL OWNERS: What made you pick that particular breed (among all other breeds) as your pet?

Because regardless of what people say about the breed, they are in fact one of the sweetest breeds out there. I have seen more aggressive Chihuahuas, beagles, terriers, etc than I ever have Pits. Same goes for Rotties, Dobermans. It's all about the way they are raised.
They are not only willing to learn, but are eager to. I've never had a problem with mine. He loves other dogs, cats, children and people in general. He is intelligent and gentle.
With good training and socialization any dog has the potential to be an amazing breed. Aggression is not bred into them, it is an unfortunate stereotype they have gotten stuck with because they happen to have used as fighting dogs in their past due to their size, and ability to last.
I believe that if placed in a proper home, with an owner who understands they are a high energy, loving dog, that they are not only wonderful, but perfect pets.

I adopted my pit. Animal Control was going to put him down because of a spiral fracture that happened when he was in their care [supposedly hit by a car.. I don't buy it]. $2,000 later, he has to be one of the best dogs I've ever met. In fact, after my fiance's parents lost their elderly samoyed, I gave him to them.
Each dog is different. But as a general, they're SUPPOSED to be people friendly and have a strong desire to please. I never leave my dogs to roam about the house unsupervised... just to avoid any problems.
