What's the best mode of transportation in Europe?

My friend and I are thinking about traveling from France to Germany and then down to Italy and Greece. Is there a train that goes through all of those countries? If yes, is there some kind of unlimited pass you can buy? I've never been to Europe so this is all new! Also, are hostels the best way to go for the budget traveler? So many questions, thanks!

Trains are the best way to go in my experience. europe is well connected by trains so you'll be able to go to practically everywhere by train!

You can get an interrail pass where you have to pick what countries (or zones) wou want to travel in and how many days you want to travel for.

You can use this site if you're from the usa http://www.eurail.com/ (i'm not sure about other parts of the world!)

I would research the prices of trains within the countries you're going to though because sometimes it ends up cheaper to pay as you go along- France, Germany and Italy will be expensive though so i'd say a interrail pass would be best for you.

I have always loved hostel accommodation and would recommend it to anyone who has an open mind and who wants to meet lots of new people and have lots of fun!

Hostelworld.com is a great site where every hostel is reviewed so you know what you're getting before you get there!

    have fun!

Trains are defiantly the way to go, just be prepared for long, even overnight trips. Hostels are okay depending on the kind of experience you want. Personally, I think hostels are kind of inconvenient, but are cheaper.
