Blood clots question ?

I just started the pill a few days ago on day one of my periods...And the doc told me about blood clots as one of the symptoms. Can anyone please tell me what are the symptoms of it, how long should I wait before I notice something, and how easy is it to get these clots...

I know I shouldnt be thinking negatively but I cant help it, and everytime I feel this pull in my calves, I think that my blood is clotting..its really silly, and I would appreciate all the help..thanks

Update:

She suggested to take it the first day of the period and up to 5 days of it..so incase I didnt have a pack on me I could start on days 2-5, but not after 5,,,I should be on the pill already by day 6.. Alesse is what I was told to try out.

Blood clots aren't incredibly likely on birth control. If you're a smoker you have an increased risk, but it's still not that typical. I, along with several friends, have been on and off BC for several years and none of us have ever had any serious problems.

Also, did your doctor suggest starting the actual pill on the day of your period, or the placebo? I was always instructed to start the first pill the Sunday or Wednesday after my period was finished.
