another question about partial integrals?

ok, hopefully this is my but the question im working on asks me to find the integral of (x^4 +3)/(x^2 -2x -3)

i can simplify the denominator to be (x-3)(x+1) but im stuck on how to simplify the top

    The degree of the numerator is higher than the degree of the denominator, so you'll have to do polynomial division to get it to be

    f(x) + p(x)/q(x) where deg(p)<deg(q), then you can attack it with partial fractions.
