Is this an understocked 29 Gallon fish tank?

If so, what more can I add to it (I'm trying to have a peaceful fish tank)?

2 Zebra Dinos

3 Mollys

1 Betta

6 Cory Catfish

5 Platys

Thanks!

Understocked is good. It's very good.

I'd say your tank population is about right now. You might add about 4 or 5 more zebra danios. This will help keep the zebras happy and out of mischief, because they'll keep busy chasing each other around.

I would keep an eye on Mr Betta, Platy's and Molly's have been known to fin nip.

And I would also up the number of Zebra Danio to six, they spend a lot of time hiding when not in a shoal.

The live bearers and if conditions fall right Cory will breed, so I would knock it on the head with the additional Danio.

No, I'd say it's overstocked. Even if none of those fish grew to more than two inches that would be 34 inches of fish and I believe mollies grow larger than that.

I'd get a separate tank for the platies and mollies and add some freshwater aquarium salt to it. They like brackish water but the catfish don't. Then I'd add three or four more zebra danios to the first tank because they prefer to be in schools of five or more.

A fish tank is never understocked, only overstocked, remember less fish means more room to swim for the current fish, less likely the chance of a fight occurring between the fish, and less waste being put into the tank by fish poo

interior the international of aquariums, greater extremely is extra advantageous. rather lots in case you ask us which may well be extra advantageous, a smaller tank or a greater tank, we are able to continuously say the better tank. So, I would desire to declare the fifty 5 gallon :). I rather have a 29 gallon tank and on the same time as i'm nevertheless style of up interior the air approximately what i circulate to put in it while it extremely is waiting for fish, i think of i circulate to have 6 crimson lyretail swordtails and 6 pygmy cory cats, plus some apple snails. you will desire to placed a great style of issues in this tank nonetheless, and it extremely is great adequate to make a sturdy community aquarium. in school I maintained a fifty 5 gallon with a woman betta, six gold airborne dirt and mud lyretail mollies, six crimson velvet swordtails, one sailfin dalmation molly, a bristlenose albino pleco, and 2 congo tetras. it extremely is a huge length for a sturdy community aquarium the place you may in high-quality condition a ton of categories of livebearers, tetras, rainbowfish, barbs, or different non violent community fish. between the best things a pair of fifty 5 gallon is you may set it up as an African cichlid tank for close to-saltwater pleasing colorings. you basically %. an African lake from which to inventory, and upload certainly one of those the smaller cichlids from the lake (many get purely 3-4", yet some that are bought as juveniles can rather be 12" or extra while totally grown, so do your examine and get species that are outfitted on your tank). Kits tend to be extra costly, yet each from time to time they seem nicer via fact each of the products are meant to circulate together and in high-quality condition smartly under the hood. I rather have kits for many of my smaller aquariums. putting each of the products together separately is extra fee-effective, and it potential you may choose for the easy, clear out, heater, etc. that are outfitted on your tank. the alternative is rather as much as you.

That sounds good to me. If I were to add to that, I think I would get 3 more mollys and about 4 more danios. They do better in groups of 6 or more.

Keep in mind that mollys and platys are live bearers and it is best to keep 2-3 females for every male. Most pet shops can show you the difference.=

If you allow for their growth, and that most of your fish will max out at or around 2.5 to 3 inches each, you should stop at 10 fish and that's still going to be pushing it.

I hate being the bearer of bad news but you really need to return half of your fish to the store.

They are usually very good about giving store credit for more fish, the smaller store anyway.

  • I would keep it at that, you don'tt want them to become too crowded, and then become stressed... if you want, you could buy some ghost shrimp (their really cool, their see-through and they eat all of the left-over food that goes to the bottom, keeping it cleaner) But I don't think they can live in salt water, if thats what you have...
