Since you are asking about all the netbooks and then a piece of crap notebook, I assume you would want us to just keep it to those listed...

As such, go for the Acer Aspire One with a 6-cell battery. It's by far the best netbook- Acer's typically known for low quality, but the Aspire One just can't be beat. The HP Mini is a good second choice, but I haven't seen anything on it that really makes me say "wow." If you want something that will last forever, get the Lenovo S10.

One thing about the Aspire One: It's going to be updated with a new 10" model (the current ones are 8.9") in a couple months. You may want to wait till then, when the current models will likely drop in price.

Your requirement is not clear. As per what I understand you need a very basic laptop, now a days every laptop comes with CD/DVD drive, 1 GB RAM is minimum you get and 160 GB hard disks are not common for laptops. If you want cheaper stuff go for what is commonly available in market, which will mean that you should go for 250 or 320 GB. Your use should decide what configuration of laptop you should go out for, in worst case it should be the price. If price is the issue go for a desktop. If you are going to use it for just browsing through net and some entertainment then, take the Basic configuration and opt for Altech Lansing speakers and nVidia graphics card. Though both come for a price. Another important thing you should look for is the post sales support, Dell has its support only in bangalore, as long as it is under warranty they will come to you any where in India and do the repairs but once warranty is over, you will have to bear the cost of even sending your laptop to Bangalore and back. While for HP you find some service centers at least in all major cities. given this situation I will count dell out until you live in or near Bangalore. Sony and Lenovo are costly brands and I am not sure about Acer. So I would prefer to choose between HP and Compaq. As both are products of same company and there by giving you similar service. If you want more features go for HP else if you are more concerned about price then go for Compaq

I agree with buddy about the mac, they do last forever. If it was my choice I would probably 100% choose the dell mini!! They last pretty near longer than any other on that list

Get either the dell or the hp. Do not go near Emachines. They're horrible, and i have a bunch or friends who have experience with them and won't go near them.

I would really say stick with the dell though. HP is too small.

sorry to tell you but those are pc's

they will only last a year and piss u off!

get a $1300 macbook. trust me ive been down that road... pc is the worst investment u will ever make.

the best from that list is dell, my old dell lasted a wile...

plus mac runs both os's its a no brainer

DO NOT BUY ACER!!! that one was the WORST!!! the trackpad went, then the battery, then the motherboard.

Source(s): owned 3 pc laptops (different brands) all only lasted a year, except dell, lasted about 2. mac lasts forever
  • Hp mini. My dell didn't even last me 6 months and they would not fix it either.

HP mini. Depends what you're looking for I suppose, but it has a lot of power and a 2.0 Intel. Also, you might want to get that keyboard fixed while you're at it.
