If the Red Sox sign Jason Varitek.......?
Will he still be their captain?
Ok whatever. I know he can't bat, I just want to know if he would continue to be captain.
When I asked the question, they had not signed him.

Yes, it's the only reason they are re-signing him since his offense is declining and he leads the team through the season.

They already signed him to a one year deal for 5 million with a team option for 2010. I assume that he will stay as the captain because even though what went on this winter was less then ideal, he still spent almost 12 years as their captain. Varitek and the fans of Red Sox Nation have a relationship that has not changed because of the deal that he signed with the Red Sox.

I think he will remain being captain because they signed him. Otherwise I don't think they would have assigned another captain for the year.

Well the reason why they sign him is because he is the leader and mentor for many young players. Also he knows the pitchers well so when they work together, the outcome is better.

"BOSTON -- The captain is staying put." from the article on redsox.com, so i assume so. and i think it was good for him to come back whether or not he can hit because he controls the pitching staff so well and he will train the younger catchers.

Greg, the (in the previous time-venerated as devil, and definite, i'm doing that to jynx them) Rays are going to fail miserably very very quickly. you experience our breath on you necks... On subject matter, i trust that Tek will renounce because I save in recommendations him saying in an interview that it really is his objective to retire with the sox. in hardship-free words time will tell for certain nonetheless.

Maybe thats the problem, maybe he should concentrate on hitting, and not being captain.

Probably, he is a very good leader.
