Are 1999 Chevy Tahoes good reliable SUV's?

I came across one and I would like to know if they are hard to maintain or if they last a long time if I take good care of it?

    Yes they are reliable.

Common issues are the leaking intake manifold gasket, and the fuel pumps.

The intake manifold gasket was prone to leaking at about 100k miles. It has most likely been taken care of by now, or it isn't a big enough problem to pull the intake to fix it.

The fuel pumps are hit and miss. Keep the fuel level above 1/4 tank (to keep the in-tank pump submerged in fuel to help keep it cool) and it will most likely last a long time.

Parts are plentiful. Most items from 88-98 (and 99 SUVs) will fit it. The suspension and body is pretty much identical through the years.

Some people may say that the transmission is weak. I think that it is the driver's fault.

Source(s): '97 GMC (identical to what your looking at) 202k miles. No rebuilds on engine or transmission. NEver fixed my intake manifold gasket, it barely leaks at all. Replaced fuel pump once at 133k. Had torque-convertor solenoid (TCC) fail, I replaced the solenoid myself in my driveway ($50 solenoid) and works like new.

well as a kid(13 yrs of age) i know alot about cars..however the chevy tahoe is a good suv and might be good fit for you they also have alot of room(mom had one)...on the other hand it should not be hard to maintain i really suggest that you look at the car's condition and its past info tho...

    hope i helped =/

My father has a 99 Tahoe, it's very reliable and durable! Withstands all major obstacles vehicles undergo. HOWEVER gas is pretty up there with his truck which is why I dont ask to borrow it, he always wants me to PUT gas in it.

These trucks are very dependable if they are maintained well from day one. If it has been through multiple owners, it is hard to tell if it will nickle and dime you to death. But, as a whole they are good vehicles.

it's already 10 years old! i don't recommend getting a car that is that old.
