Did he overfeed his Oscar (fish) ?

My brother fed his 3.5 inch Oscar 9 tiny minnows within about 30 hours. It died. I think he overfed it, but he would like to know if it is possible to overfeed oscars since he was told it is impossible as they will stop eating if they are full.

Some fish will actually eat themselves sick. Although, oscars are usually not known to do this. What's his water quality? Temp?

More than likely it did over eat, 9 for a fish that small is way too much! Try keeping them in a separate house instead, or buy fewer next time.

    Best of Luck!

It might have died because of the quality of water.

Make sure the water quality is good have the pet store check it for free!

Definitely don't feed an Oscar that many even in a week.

Maybe twice a week feed it live fish the rest of the time stick to pellets!

It's unlikely that the Oscar ate itself to death on minnows, they do have some brain and know enough to stop when they are full.

I would check the tank conditions, the main problem with feeding a lot of food is that the water conditions deterioate faster than with light feeding. So you need better filtering, (must be cycled) and more water changes.
