Stimulus Bill..................?

Basically, Obama's new "Stimulus" bill is a 647 page document, comprised by the House, that, essentially, gives Obama and his cabinet the power to tax as much as necessary and to spend it all on random, new plans with no approval needed.

Much of the document approves the spending of 700+ billion on projects that do nothing for the economy. And let me remind you all that the economy is our main problem right now; the state of the economy is what caused so many people to vote for Obama in the first place. But he's doing nothing to help the economy with this new bill!

Opinions please? I know I've made my opinion clear but I'm curious to see what you all think - especially those who voted for Obama but might be having second thoughts now because of this bill.

Thank you!

Update:

To Francois H - I'm not trying to make it sound like I'm a scholar on the Bill or anything - I don't know a lot of what's it in. But that's exactly my point: no one does!

They're just trying to pass it off quickly and give Obama a ton of power before anyone realizes what those powers actually are.

Update 2:

Daniel C - No, actually, there was a lot I disliked about the Patriot Act. I liked Bush much better than Obama, seeing as I'm a Republican. But I hated how no one ever heard what powers he got from the Patriot Act; the people at least have a right to know what they're dealing with.

So, in answer to your question, no, I wasn't completely okay with the Patriot Act either.

Update 3:

Yes, well, like I said - I'm looking for opinions. I'm not here to post information about the Bill for you or to outline my whole point. I know what I think about it and I'm wondering what other people think. It's that simple.

So thank you for your opinion.

The "public" is made up of mostly people who are not in the god-fearing category. They get deceived by the media, and they listen to secularists and socialists who promise a change. So, they got what they voted for. It's their fault. They were deceived and mesmerized by a man who the media claimed to be the "messiah" but he's no Messiah. People will get deceived easily if they are not abiding in Christ. That's what it comes down to and that's the way it always was and always will be.

Are you for real? Have you not wondered what happened to tax payers money over the last 8 years? Bush cut funding for education, healthcare, and gave the wealthy big tax cuts. Where do you think all of this money went? Obama wouldn't have to create a stimulus package to jump start this economy again if the last President hadn't wasted away all of our money. This so call projects you mentioned in the stimulus actually do affect the economy. Are the average Americans getting the things that we need to keep us happy so that we can in turn go out and put our money back into the economy? Right now the answer is still no. Everyone is still holding on to every nickel we get. Giving us another stimulus check will not work either because all we will do is pay off a bill with it. Obama's stimulus will work. It's going to take time but it will work.

Why would you want opinions when you have no facts?

The tax and spending portion of the bill is of course passed by congress. They must approve it. Just like any other bill.

You say 'much of the document approves spending of 700+ billion that do nothing for the economy'. But you do not state which ones *do* do something for economy. Nor do you give a single example to show any of them do nothing for the economy. Nor do even bother outlining what the theory of a government stimulus is, as, for example, any high school student now knows who takes introductory economics.

I believe that there is 300 billion in tax cuts. How in the world are you against tax cuts? The tax cuts were put in at the urging of the Republicans who suggested they would support a stimulus bill if it had a lot of tax cuts. This fact proves that your statement 'much of' is false - 400 billion of 300 billion is near half and not what most people would consider 'much' - however subjective those adjectives are.

Second, the rest of the spending will be spent on people's incomes. Even if they didn't produce anything of value from that income - suppose they just dug holes and filled them in, that would increase spending and raise output according to the basic Econ 1 model, and help the economy.

Thirdly, let's take an example- the bill would spend a billion say on people to help other with AIDS, and much more on health care in general. Do you think improving people's health will not help the economy? How would it not?

Fourthly, I have seen people ridicule the 50 billion spent on science and technology. Is it necessary to point out that today's economy is nothing but science and technology? And if our economy is to improve it would by necessity need the most science and technology possible? That's what the Chinese government is doing, spending hundreds of billions on science, technology and engineering. And although there are obviously long term consequences to science and technology, there are also short term consequences since that money goes directly as incomes to the science and technology sectors. A similar argument can be made for education.

I am totally ignorant at this point. I keep just hitting the channel button on my remote when the subject is mentioned. That said, I did see a clip of a speech/statement that Obama's opponent in the election said about our presidents plan. We need to CUT taxes for the citizens and do more to help those that lost their jobs, income, and housing due to the current economy. Rather than give big cooperation's tax breaks.

Maybe I am a bit bias in that respect. I know a very delightful person whom is currently living out of her car.

I am a Democrat but maybe I am just a little bit jaded

I think a lot of this stimulus money is going to lobbyist who helped

get Barack Obama elected to President of the United States.

The Union is asking for theirs UP FRONT and it looks like they will get

theirs by generous donations to Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors.

There is just too much PORK that is not going to created jobs and or

    stimulate our very sick economy.

I know Democrats love to spend money but this bill is OBSCENE

If you read the bill you'll see that only about 25% of the 882 Billion dollars actually goes to stimulus.

    It's a total farce.

Source(s): I read it yesterday. I still have a headache.

But I guess you were okay with the 342-page document called the Patriot Act that was rushed through Congress without debate and gave Bush the power to be a dictator? Did you question that? Or are you only questioning this because you don't like Obama?
