Why Do I Get A Clicking Sound When I Record With A Microphone Through The Sound Card?

I'm using Roxio's default settings to record through the sound card with a microphone. I get about two clicks per second during the playback. But when I use another software, I don't get the clicking. Any suggestions on what I can do to eliminate the clicking while using Roxio?

Update:

I get the clicking on my pc and on my laptop. The laptop was on the kitchen table with no other electronic equipment around it. It's odd that I can use the same setup and not get clicking by using Windows Sound Recorder. That tells me that it's not the microphone, USB cable, or sound card. I'm thinking it may be something in the way Roxio is set up. I'll have to fiddle with the settings and see if that makes a difference.

Even if it depends on the software, that sounds like RF interference. Is your sound card build on to the motherboard or in a PCI slot? If it's in a slot, try moving it. Position it far away from other things in the computer if possible, especially away from hard drives and modems.

Usually clicking sounds in audio are caused by radio interference put out by other components in your computer.

Another somewhat less likely but still possible culprit is a device other than your computer. Does the audio cable go by any old CRT monitors, printers, or big power cables?

EDIT: Come to think of it, the frequency of the clicking in that specific program makes me think "hard drive" -- it's probably writing the audio from memory to disk. Is the hard drive light coming on at about the pace of the clicking?

EDIT 2: Well, if you've changed every variable except the software, I guess it's a software bug. Weird.

you would be unable to. You play the sounds coming from a sound card lower back into the sound card you get an inner comments loop ensuing in that comparable sound you get once you place a microphone next to its very own speaker. you need to head into thew sound from yet another source.
