What is the best place in Malaysia for me to visit?
I am planning to visit Malaysia with my family (2 little kids - 1yr + 4yr) for Vacation. I prefer beach and nature places to spend time leisurely, but that doesn't mean to explore the forest.

My recommendation to you is to go either Redang Island or Perhentian Island. It's a family friendly island.
Both islands are pretty small comparing to Langkawi hence its more relaxing. Langkawi is almost like a small town by itself where you can easily find restaurants and shops. Also, Langkawi is a duty free island. Meaning, lots of cheap alcohol and cigarettes.
Redang and Perhentian island are still quite pristine but it can be very crowded from April till July (peak season). Once you're there, you'd probably opt for a full board package where the package includes accommodation and meals. You can fly in to the nearest town which is Kuala Terengganu and then take a 40 minutes speed boat ride to the island.
Things you can do include, snorkeling/diving if you're a diver and of course any beach related activities are also available, or you can do jungle trekking which is quite relaxing as trails are pre built for you to explore.
With warm, calm and crystal clear water, it is the preferred destination for many locals and Singaporeans.
Other less popular but very nice islands are Lang Tengah, Kapas, Tenggol (for divers). Notice that all good islands are located at the east coast of peninsula Malaysia. Langkawi is on the west coast.
Hope the information helps and you can google the islands for more info.

I went to Malaysia with my wife a couple of years back. We went to Kuala Lumpur, Perhentian and Langkawi. Langkawi is probably a good option for you. It is easy to reach from KL and you can combine beach life with some sightseeing. Here is a trip report with pictures that I made after our trip http://gardkarlsen.com/Malaysia_Langkawi.htm .

If you're looking for a place with a beach and nature close at hand there's:
Langkawi Island (Never been there myself but it's popular)
Perhentian Islands (Nice islands but Long Beach is for nude sunbathers...)
Nexus Resort Karambunai (I went there before, it's a great family place...)
