In pop culture, why are more gays breaking away from stereotypes than lesbians?

In fiction, that is. Film, tv, etc.

Um I usually see gay males in pop culture than females, so I don't think that they're changing the fictional homosexual man more than the woman, we just don't see them as much.

Most TV, and films, when they want a homosexual in their movies, they'll have a male character. So yeah.

I hadn't thought of that until now. But come to think of it, lesbians are very under-represented in pop culture as well. TV and the movie industry needs to work on that.

Gay male stereotypes are easier to break because they're so outlandish and off the wall. Lesbian/Gay female stereotypes are insidious and underscored with misogynistic feminine hate. Straight males are more often intimidated by strong females regardless of the woman's sexuality. Many of these women are labeled as "lesbian" regardless of the truth because it's easier for men to discard them as viable "mates."

because gay male types are alot more appealing to people, like a str8 acting guy who is gay has alot of appeal among teenage girls who like the idea of two boys making out, i think it's the masculinity, i know one friend of mine (girl) really enjoys our two friends (bf & bf) making out ^o) and she says it's because it's like she sees them as being str8 and masculine and it's like a domination thing, like a kind of warring contrast?..if that makes sense......but wth two females (lip stick lesbians) its more like one trying to submit to the other and it doesnt have that contrast, but a butch lesbian and a lip stick has the same as a str8 relationship.....one submits to the other.....im not sure what reaction people would get from butch on butch....personally i don't find the idea appealing....but i find two str8 acting guys kissing and having sex very...besides erotic...it's very poetic? in a kind of way, two masculine personalitys where one sumits to the other.....as i said before...warring contrast....but thats just my opinion....

Source(s): -edit- obviously people dont want to hear my opinions....just for that everyone gets a thumbs down
