For the older CRT monitors its safe but on the laptops not.The ammonia on windex ruins the glare on the screen.

I see a lot of people recommending water. No. Don't ever use water to clean any part of your computer. Unless you're using distilled water you'll leave behind mineral deposits, and only deionized water is relatively safe to use around electronics (but it's poisonous).
Windex is okay because it isn't straight ammonia; it's a mild solution. 91% isopropyl alcohol is also good. Both evaporate at room temperature and leave no mineral deposits behind. Sprays for cleaning glasses and camera lenses are also good choices.
Lens cleaning cloths are best, but you want to avoid anything that's even mildly abrasive like some of the papers. Felt, flannel, or soft knit fabrics are best. Wet the cloth with the cleaner and wipe the LCD gently. Don't ever spray anything directly on the screen, as it can run down and pool inside giving you the potential for shorts.

For an LCD screen you should use water or Isopropyl Alcohol but don't spray directly onto the screen but on an lint free cloth to then wipe the screen while the display is off.

No. There are LCD cleaning wipes available.
This is one example:

or you can travel to your nearest office supply store (Office Depot; Staples; Office Max) or electronic retailer (Best Buy) or even general retailers (Target, Walmart) and find the type of cleaning wipes you need.

NEVER use any chemical cleaners, they may attack the screen material. Also if a slight amount gets into any part of the screen it may chemically attack components. Only use slightly a damp cloth with a tiny trace of washing up liquid, then wipe it off with a plain damp cloth.

No!! lol. Use very little water and a cloth that is not abrasive to wash it and dry it. Microfiber cloths are recommended. Like he said, ok for CRTs.
