Can you tell me some fancy ways to serve a canned pear half. I need to feed a group.?

It needs to be good and a little fancy, not super fancy, just a little more then a plain pear half.

Ok, so take a plate that is pretty casual, but still a little fancy. If you are not feeding too many people make individual servings. Drizzle some chocolate syrup or a balsamic glaze in a zig-zag pattern on the plate. Then gently set the pear half in the middle of the plate. Then zig-zag some more syrup or glaze the opposite way over the pear and plate. Then stick a mint leaf in the middle of the pear all nice and pretty. There you have it!

You can also do the same thing with more pears, just on a bigger plate!

    Pear Salad

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese

    1/4 cup chopped pecans

    1/2 cup mayonnaise

    1/8 cup maraschino cherry juice

    8 leaves of lettuce

2 (15 ounce) cans pear halves

    8 maraschino cherries

    1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

    DIRECTIONS

Mix together the cream cheese and pecans. Refrigerate until chilled.

Blend together the mayonnaise and cherry syrup. Refrigerate until chilled.

Arrange lettuce leaves on individual plates. Place a pear half on lettuce.

Place a round ball of cream cheese mixture in the pear half. Top with a spoonful of mayonnaise mixture and place one maraschino cherry on top.

Sprinkle with grated cheese and serve.

This would cover a fruit, a dairy, even a little protein (from the nuts) so you're getting some of 3 different food groups. It's pretty good too. And it does look pretty.

Oh my gosh, this recipe sounds SO good, plus you can use your canned pears and recalculate this recipe to the amount of servings you need for your party! Just go to Allrecipes.com and look up Pear Crumble and change the serving amount! Hope this helps you out today, I love pears too!

    Pear Crumble

"ORIGINALLY a pear crumble pie, I shortened this to a crumble when I often was too short of time to make a pie crust. I've also found canned pears work as well as fresh, so that makes it even easier to prepare. -Kezia Sullivan, Sackets Harbor, New York"

    INGREDIENTS

3 pears - peeled, cored and sliced

    2 teaspoons lemon juice

    3 tablespoons sugar

    3 tablespoons old-fashioned oats

    2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

    1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    1/8 teaspoon ground ginger

    1 dash ground nutmeg

    1 tablespoon cold butter

    2 tablespoons chopped nuts

    DIRECTIONS

Place pear slices in a greased 1-qt. baking dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice. In a bowl, combine the sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Cut in butter until crumbly; add nuts. Sprinkle over pears. Bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly.

    how this for something simple:

    Poached Pear with Orange Cream

    1. whip up some cream with orange zest and juice or pure extract

    2. put that in the fridge

    3. drain the juice off into a pan and add some triple sec or cognac

    4. add a little cinnamon and reduce the fluid by 1/3

    5. pop a slice of orange in a serving dish

    6. put the pear into the juice and bring to a quick boil

    7. remove from the heat and serve over the orange slice

    8. top with orange cream

the sweetness of the pear will work well with a little zest cream and sauce i think

Slice the half-pear into three parts (length wise).

Serve on a large platter spreading the fruit in a shape of three crescents which meet in a single point. (Like a shooting star.

    __ \

    \

(Apologies in advance for the lame picture of the cut pear. I am also having difficulty moving the last \ to the proper position, after the hyphen.)

Surround with various cheese (swiss, american, mozzerella) or with whatever you have.

    Slightly drizzle with honey

    Serve as a finalie

Bake in the oven with a simple brown sugar glaze and top with whipped cream.

Put a lettuce leaf on a small plate, put some cottage cheese on the lettuce. Place a pear half (cut side up) on top of the cottage cheese. Put a couple of maraschino cherries into the hollow of the pear.
