Tool fans, non-Tool fans and haters, gather 'round......?

I've never seen a lively Tool Q&A here, so I thought I'd start one. There are different categories for the questions. Take a look.

Also, don't feel obligated to answer everything. Answer as few or as many as you like.

*Dissenting opinions on Tool are welcome here, but keep it focused on the band, not on your fellow R&P'ers, please*

*suggestion- when you answer, reference the question in some way

Me! me! I love Tool... LOL!

    so here we go :)

    2) Maynard's voice drew me. It is just incredible. He has an almost ethereal quality to his vocals when he is mellow. But when he is angry and aggressive, he convinces me too. he can do both and do them well.

    3) I like my Tool with Chocolate sauce :P Okay seriously, I like both. the angry and the more artsy stuff. Its all part of who they are.

    4) I can't choose!

    5) Disgustipate :) it just amuses me . ALOT.

6)Ænema, its just a great song

    7) I am not much of a video person. I always minimize them and listen. I watched a couple, andf I think they are too " artsy " for me, they just leave me creeped out. LOL!

    8) Currently I am a complete and TOTAL SPAZ over The Divorce , their song with The Melvins. It is my newest obsession. I do love APC too.

    9) Schisms or sober, even though those are my 2 least favorite songs, they are generally loved be everyone but me. Perhaps I would throw in 46&2 and Opiate as well.

    10) Die Eire Von Satan ... sim sala bim!

    11) 10,000 days. The album concept is so cool.

    12) I would love to have them come out with more stuff , sooner. however, I think that they need that time to come out with the amazing stuff they do. If they had to curn out a record ever 2 years, maybe the stuff wouldn't be as good. So I can wait.

    13) *shakes magic 8 ball * Reply hazy, try again

Stupid 8 ball... I think we are in for another wonderful record. I can't wait!!!

    General Questions

    1. Do you like Tool, dislike Tool, or indifferent? I just recently (in the past 4 months) started liking Tool.

    2. What first drew you to Tool? Or, what makes you cover up your ears and sing "lalalalalala" when you hear Tool? I had previously tried to listen some of their stuff after hearing about them so much on here and didn't get it. After I started listening to APC I gave Tool another chance and I liked it. I haven't heard all of their stuff but the two albums I own are kinda amazing.

    3. How do you like your Tool? Angrier (Opiate, Undertow), Artsier (Lateralus, 10,000 Days), or both (Ænima) (feel free to disagree with my categorization) I only have Lateralus and Ænima so I guess those are my two favorites. I do have a feeling that I'll like the angrier when I get around to really listening to it haha.

    4. Favorite album opener? Any particular reason? Not really...

    5. Favorite closing song? Reason? same.

    6. Favorite title track? Reason? (for this question, consider Ænema the title track for Ænima) Lateralus. It is so long yet I never want it to end (that's what she said) and I never get tired of it. I listen to it multiple times a day (which may just be contributed to the honeymoon phase I'm in with the band haha)

    7. Videos- like them, hate them? I don't love them. I do appreciate the creativity though

    8. Any side projects, guest appearances, etc that you like? I love APC and I really really like the Deftones song "Passenger" that Maynard is featured in.

    9. If you could pick one song for the purposes of introducing someone to Tool, what would it be? Schism. It is (in my novice opinion) one of the catchier Tool songs yet it is still a good representation. I really shouldn't be introducing them to anyone yet though since I don't really know much lol.

    10. Favorite filler track? (filler, non-sensical, short, whatever you want to call it) I'm not a fan of filler :/

    11. Favorite album artwork? (not limited to cover art) I dig the clear cover for Lateralus.

    12. Tool takes their sweet azz time releasing albums. Does this bother you? (4 and a half albums in 17 years) No...this means I have plenty of time to catch up on the years that I've missed. I never really get mad when bands take a long time if it is worth it.

    13. Grab your crystal ball. Has Tool peaked, or is the best yet to come? I think they have been and will continue to be consistantly creative and imaginative with their music which is pleasing to any fan. I don't see it in peaks and lows.

    I'm neither a musician nor a hater :)

    5. Favorite closing song? Reason? Third Eye, its the only one I know thats actually a song.

    8. Any side projects, guest appearances, etc that you like? Adm Jones did Dark Awakening for Lustmord, great song.

    1. I like Tool, I've been a fan since 93.

    2. a friend of mine copied Undertow and Opiate on cassette.

    3. Both

    4. The Grudge it's a killer song.

    5. Faaip de Oiad it's an odd track lol.

    6. Eulogy it's an 8 minute masterpiece.

    7. Stinkfist, Schism and Prison Sex.

    8. A Perfect Circle, and Green Jelly

    9. Vicarious

    10. I like Maynard's vocal appearance in the Passenger track by The Defones.

    11. Aenima, Salival, Lateralus

    12. It does to an extent, but in the end the albums are an epic win.

  • 1 decade ago

You already know most of this, but whatever... :)

    1. I like 'em.

    2. I heard about them on R&P Which is why I checked out Ænema, I liked it but not like a crazy amount. It’s good but not my favourite, I think they have much better songs, in my opinion.

    3. Angrier, I guess. Since Opiate is my favourite album, from what I’ve heard. Well, it’s the one im gonna buy first, hell yeah!

    6. Opiate. Jeez, I don’t know, Its just freakin’ awesome, which may have something to do with it :)

    9. Jambi but that’s ‘cause it’s the first one that made me think “F*ckkkk!!!! Tool are awesome!”

    12. No, it doesn't bother me. It makes no difference, since i only properly got into them a little ago. They could have taken twelve billion years to release all their albums, yet they would still all have been there for me to listen to, now!

    EDIT.

    YOU'RE MY FAVOURITE.

    General Questions

    1. I am a huge fan of Tool.

    2. I think Aenima or Prison Sex were the first songs I heard from Tool, way back when. I was a little younger but those songs stuck with me. I also had an older bro and sis who were teens when Tool came out, so their music influenced me.

    3. I like every aspect of Tool... from the heavy to the psychedelic to the slow stuff like Right in Two... or the fast lyrics of Rosetta Stoned.

    4. Intolerance on Undertow or Eulogy on Aenima. Gotta love those *ding ding* sounds.

    5. Opiate most definitely. Gotta love the hidden track at the end, The Gaping Lotus Experience.

    6. Ooohh. I'd have to say Opiate or Lateralus.

    7. Videos- I love them.

    8. I love APC and Puscifer, and am a fan of Mike Patton, Isis, etc. who have toured with Tool.

    9. If I was introducing someone to Tool I'd let them hear Stinkfist or Parabola.

    10. Favorite filler track? Die Eier Von Satan. I loved the recipe.

    11. Favorite album artwork? Lateralus. I Liked the art for Aenima. Bill Hicks and the contortionist. Also the 3D glasses on 10,000 Days.

    12. Nope. I can listen to all their albums thoroughly and explore their side projects with ease. You can't rush a genius!

    13. I think they have a lot of tricks under their sleeve. Tool is gonna hit it high again.

    1. Like Tool

    2. Probably their intensity and their ability to build tension so well in their songs.

    3. Artsier (Lateralus, 10,000 Days) I agree with your categorization

    4. The Grudge from Lateralus, just an epic song

    5. Third Eye, again just an awesome track

    6. Lateralus, my favorite Tool song.

    7. Videos- like them

    8. A Perfect Circle is a great band, Maynard's appearance on Rage Against the Machine's Know Your Enemy from their debut is a great guest appearance

    9. Schism, really catchy awesome tune with an epic chorus, "I know the pieces fit"

    10. Message to Harry Manback, "you know you're gonna die outta cancer, I promise." :P

    11. 10,000 Days

    12. Nah, whatever.

    13. I have no idea. It'll be hard to beat Lateralus, but they're just the kind of band who could pull it off.

    1. Like 'em, don't love them, though.

    2. I think mine was Vicarious as well. It was sometime before the summer of '08. My sister gave me Aenima, and I have 10,000 Days.

    3. I'll go with both. Hooker With A Penis pwns.

    4. Vicarious, cause it's awesome and has a deep meaning.

    5. None.

    6. 10,000 Days. It's so emotional.

    7. Sober freaks me out, man!

    8. Passenger by Deftpnes. Maynard owns that song.

    9. Vicarious, again.

    10. Cesaro Summability! Or Intermission.

    11. 10,000 Days cover.

    12. Like them, but not obsessed, so no.

    13. Best is yet to come!

Maynard shines, while guitar guy and bass dude slay too. Drum guy is good, but not as insanely good as the others.
