What is the best thing to do re BIOS upgrade?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6000, I have had it for 19 months and it has been working ok and still is apart from the heat I get from the keyboard and hand-rest/mouse-pad. A while ago I was sent an email from HP sending me a link for BIOS version F.3D upgrade but I didn't apply it because I thought if it works don't fix it and I am only a novice. I got in touch with HP again and they mentioned resetting the BIOS. Has anyone heard of this resolving the heat problem? It is only the heat problem that I am having problems with. When I started to carry out the instructions it didn't match up with the steps given and I just escaped.

Resetting the BIOS would be very unlikely to fix an overheating problem unless someone had overclocked the CPU or video card.
The best way to fix the overheating would be for you, or someone who knows what they are doing, to pull it apart and clean the dust and stuff out of the fans and the cooling system inside.
Laptops get a lot of dust in them, from sitting on your desk, sitting on the carpet when you grab a drink or sitting on your bed when you watch a movie at night. I clean the dust out of mine every 2 months or so.

Hi
Wise move leave the BIOS alone it can cause all sorts of problems, should it be left to an HP Agent to deal with as he will change the BIOS Chip and it it went faulty he could re-insert the original.
this sounds like a laptop, if it is some people in the USA have suffered third degree burns from their laptops on bare legs, thinking that as it is a laptop they can put it on there lap.
Wrong the laptop will get very hot, a processor at its core can reach very high temperatures 200-300 degrees centigrade. hence the nasty burns.
its a table top device at best, it will get hot its only meant to be used for short periods of time like 20-30 minutes.
If you need to use it longer you really want a desktop P.C>
