write about , any help - remember he's in 5th grade so keep it @ that

places where he would like to go, what he wants to be when he grows up, people he would like to meet, encourage him to use his imagination, or perhaps you could incorporate fiction into the story too (if its allowed)
good luck

Does he like to read? How about a short piece telling about a book or story he has read, what he thought was particularly good about it, etc. -- a book report, in other words.
If that runs dry, a report about a television program, mentioning not only the good parts, but the lame ones too, with a little commentary on the commercials, might be fun to write.

People he would like to meet, his favorite role model, his hero, what he wants to be when he grows up, or he could even write about having writer's block!
Maybe take him to the zoo, and have him write about that. Or have him write about places he'd like to go, or a favorite vacation spot. Have him use his imagination.
Hope this helped!
