Just say that I painted a copyrighted painting and after I died?

and someone else sold the painted as an original, what would happen about that?

    I may be mistaken but if you paint something with the intent of it looking like someone else's work I don't believe it's actually illegal since you painted did paint it yourself. Now, if you tried to sell it as the original that would be illegal it would be questionable to sell it all actually but painting it, no. The gray area comes up when you are dead and out of the picture. Did the person who sold it know it was fake? If so then they would be breaking the law, you never did. If they didn't know then the gray area gets even bigger and I don't really know what would happen. It all depends on the parties involved.

    well your beneficiaries could sue if they knew it was yours. im assuming you men you copyrighted your painting.

    I don't believe you would have to worry about it anymore.
