Sully says he didn't pray . . . .are you surprised?

It certainly seems that i's not okay to pray when challenged by difficult situations. Is it better to prepare ahead of time and think through it carefully, quickly, as it happens so that there is a chance for flawless execution? Do heroes pray? Or calmly think and act instead?

'Sullenberger, a former Air Force fighter pilot who has flown commercial planes for nearly three decades, said he knew he had to touch down with the wings level and the nose slightly up, and "at a descent rate that was survivable."

"Did you, at any point, pray?" CBS' Katie Couric asked.

"I would imagine somebody in back was taking care of that for me while I was flying the airplane," he said.'

Given the amount or religious hyperbole around this, I'm grateful that he has the guts to admit to everyone that he didn't feel the need to appeal to any superstitions. Sully is living proof that a focus on the rational world is the best way to cope with things here. Now more than ever, I consider him a hero!

How do you know he didn't.? If Captain Sully prayed, he would not have taken his hand off the wheel for Jesus to physically take over the plane. That is not what Christians do when they pray. He would have prayed for help in remembering all his training and experience and for some "luck" to go along with it. Because even with all his training and experience, that might not have been enuf to prevent a tragedy in those circumstances. "Jesus take the wheel" is a euphemism for asking for guidance and divine intervention at the same time. Perhaps the passengers prayed.

    Praying is for 2 reasons.

    1. Ask for God's help.

    2. Prepare ourself to receive God's giving. Prepare ourself means whenever we receive it, we are ready to take anything God decided for us.

So if Sully doesn't pray, that's OK.. nooo problem...

Good thing he didn't. In a situation like that, prayer is a waste of time.

Pat Tillman never bothered to pray either, while he was saving the lives of his comrades in Afghanistan.
