Why No Green or Purple Stars?
Red Giants, Yellow Dwarfs, Blue Giants and White Dwarfs....
Stars range in color over the entire visible spectrum and I understand that the variation is due to power or output of the star, buy why do Green Stars not occur in nature? A star of this type theoretically would be more powerful than a yellow dwarf, but not as massive or powerful as a Blue star. And nothing on the violet side of the spectrum either... Is there a physical reason why these don't occur or have they just not been observed?
1 AnswerAstronomy & Space1 decade agoHappy Creation Day!!?
According to certain Biblical Schloars, October 23, 4004 B.C. is the day that the Earth was created which would make Earth a total of 6011 years old. How many of you actually believe this?
Based on an intricate correlation of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean histories and Holy writ, it was incorporated into an authorized version of the Bible printed in 1701, and thus came to be regarded with almost as much unquestioning reverence as the Bible itself. Having established the first day of creation as Sunday 23 October 4004 BC, by the arguments set forth in the passage below, Ussher calculated the dates of other biblical events, for example, that Adam and Eve were driven from Paradise on Monday 10 November 4004 BC, and that the ark touched down on Mt Ararat on 5 May 2348 BC `on a Wednesday.

What effect do you think this will have on our culture? I think it will have a counter effect and morepeople will ignore the implications and turn to religion. Most people just aren't equipped to cope with out the security of religion.
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat's the difference between Christians, Muslims and Jews?
They all worship the same god. They were all jews at one point and then Jesus was born... The first Chrisitians came about 500 years later. Then came Mohammed and the the first Muslims came about after that... they all worship the same god, but just believe in different messiahs/prophets.
In the big picture, there is as much difference between Muslims, Jews and Christians as there are between catholics, lutherens and baptists, yet so many wars have been fought over these minor distinctions.
How would your god respond to that?

7 AnswersRap and Hip-Hop1 decade agoIs Universal Health Care A Good Idea?
Those of us who have healthcare already pay a premium, so the argument of such a program raising taxes is ridiculous. If the entire US could institute a Universal Healthcare Program that will more than likely be less than you pay now in insurance premiums, would that be a good or bad? Right now, most people have insurance through their employers. The employer probably pays alot more than you realize for your benefits package, but that is part of his compensation to you... If the government instituted UHC, you would probably end up with more money in your pocket in the end because now you can demand your compensation in full.
The notion that Canadians who can afford it come to the US for healthcare has been challeneged. Are there any Canadians or Great Brits here who would like to comment on socialized healthcare vs capitalized healthcare? I imagine that on the border states, a lot of Americans slip over the Canadian border and pretend to be Canadians in order to get free healthcare
13 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoDo You Have Any Doubts Regarding Global Warming?
I do. I used to be an ardent believer in the science behind global warming, but now I have some doubts... and the very facts that led me to believe now cause me to doubt. For instance, those graphs correlating CO2 concentrations and global temps over 700,000 years based on ice core samples don't mention that temps rose first and CO2 concentration lagged behind it by as much as 800 years. How can CO2 cause rising temps if temps rose first? Could rising temps cause rising CO2?
Also, every gallon of gasoline burned emits 19lbs of CO2 in to the atmosphere. This means that the average driver emits billions of tons of CO2 in to the atmosphere every year. Multiplied by the billions of drivers worldwide, we've only seen a 1 degree rise in global temps in 100 years. There is something missing from the equation, obviously. Has anyone studied the carbon cycle?
So do you doubt GW at all? Why or why not?
13 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoHow Can You Be Sure That God And The Devil Are Who The Bible Says They Are?
Have you ever wondered why everything that is so damned wrong feels so damned good? I have.
I was wondering, what if God really was the Devil and the Devil was the true creator? It would make more sense. Why would we be forbidden to enjoy the senses endowed to us by the very person that created them in the first place? Why would sex feel so good if it's only meant for procreation without recreation? Why would he create women so beautiful and then say not to admire their beauty?
What if we are meant to master the pain and pleasures of the physical realm to prepares us for the next one? And somehow, the wrong entity is winning the battle? It has been said that Satan is the great Deceiver... how can we be sure that he hasn't pulled off the greatest deception of all? To convince us that he is God and God is the Devil in an attempt to deny us the blessings of physical existence ?

15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat Is Magnetism?
On a quantum level, what occurs inside iron and steel when it is exposed to a electric/magnetic field so that it's properties change? Does the metal become polarized? Why does this not happen to all kinds of matter and why only metals?
2 AnswersPhysics1 decade agoIs Religion The Origin Of Morality?
Personally, I believe than man is innately a moral creature... that these morals derive from higher cognition and that religion is an early attempt to rationalize it. Unfortunately, over the ages, that has been forgotten. How else could you explain why the tenants of every major world religion throughout time has been so similar? They all attempt to explain why things are right and why they are wrong, even though they may not agree on all issues, the intent to rationalize actions are there.
So did religion invent morality, or did morality invent religion?
25 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat happened to Mars' Atmosphere?
Well, the mass of Earth is 5.98 x 10^24 kg and out ATM is designated as 1.
Venus is 4.87 x 10^24 kg..... both smaller and less dense than Earth, yet it's ATM is 90 times our.
Mars mass is 6.42 x 10²³ kg.... smaller by a whole order of magnitude, yet the ATM is only 1% of Earth's.
Obviously, atmospheric density is not a function of mass or gravity. And it's also obvious that Mars once had an atmosphere due to the presence of water erosion paterns on it's surface. So what happened to Mars' atmosphere? Why did it erode away?
And why is Venus' atmosphre so thick compared to ours when it is smaller and less dense?

What telescope is powerful enough? Where and when should I look up in the night sky? Is it possible to see any other moons with a commercial telescope? I live in upstate New York. Are there any websites I could visit that would help?
I've never looked up in the night sky with a telescope at all. I'd like to see all the planets, but Saturn is probably the best to start with... it's rings make it distinctive.
