For the other Americans here..Do you....?

stand and cover your heart when our National Anthem is played?

It was so disappointing to watch the Super Bowl and see this small amount of respect ignored by so many. Especially the athletes. Is it really so hard to look alive when your national song is being played? I've never understood that!

They think they are too cool and bad@55 to do that.

Melting Media, give me a f-ing break... they are getting paid loads of cash to PLAY A GAME. And you're saying it is too tiring for them to do something so simple as to put their hand on their heart while the national anthem is being played. Pffft.

Paid mercenaries... what a load of crap. LOL

Of course I do. Respecting a country is good, disrespecting it is bad. I don't really know why people do it, maybe they just think it doesn't matter, or it's not important for some reason. The athletes, my friend thinks that they are "big macho guys" that want to be tough, so they do what the other guy does, and it's pretty much a domino effect.

Um yeah I do think it's in bad taste to not act respectfully during the anthem but I don't understand the kneejerk reactions about it honestly.

This old lady I work with spent the ENTIRE MORNING one day last week on the phone calling every government representative in our state complaining about this very issue.

Yes I do, I was raised this way and I agree with the superbowl part i remember seeing one of the players talking to another during the song. It disgusts me when ever I see it. It is not like it is a really long song anyway

I do and make certain I face the American flag, but consider how many times the athletes must endure this. They are paid mercenaries and we don't pay them to be patriotic, we pay them to entertain us.

Think about ice hockey players. 82 times a year minimum they must hear both the American and Canadian national anthems in their arenas. I wager it would wear on you too.

Patriotism is not compulsory. Please don't attempt to make nationalism the same as patriotism. That goes against freedom.

I do, out of respect for the people around me, not for my country. I have never felt patriotic, ever. I know that's probably a bad thing, but it's the truth...

I stand to show respect, but I don't hold my hand over my heart.

I'm Retired Navy, and nobody get more upset than I do about this subject. Parents just don't teach respect for the country anymore, heck they don't even teach respect for the parents for that matter.
