Animal Crossing for the Wii is a great game but it's better to play it individually.

Animal Crossing: City Folk might be a bit big for a 6-year-old, but if he's a competent reader, it shouldn't be too bad. It would be a great game to play with your son. The game has a simple premise - you've just moved to a small town, and the basic goal is to pay off your house loan. There's no time limit, no compounded interest, and a variety of ways to earn the currency of the game, called Bells, like fishing, harvesting fruit, and catching bugs. The game would help teach budgeting, writing composition (you get presents from your neighbors when you send them letters with gifts attached), and the animals talk about a wide variety of subjects and somewhat unusual and exotic foods, so he'd be heavily exposed to the ideas of trying new things (one of my neighbors was just talking about paneng curry and chai...mmmm chai....). My girlfriend and I spend hours playing it every day, and we're in our 20s - it has a very universal appeal.

The Rayman Raving Rabbids games are a blast - I prefer the first over the second, but I haven't played the third. There's something universal about using a gun that shoots toilet plungers at screaming cartoon rabbits. Good fun.
