Olivine, it has a higher melting temperature than other minerals commonly found in Basalt

That depends on the composition of the basalt.
"Basalt" is many different things, from Mid Ocean Ridge Basalt to Alkali Basalt or High Alumina basalt. They don't have to contain olivine at all!
So the first mineral to crystallise may be olivine, pyroxene (either augite or orthopyroxene) or plagioclase feldspar.
