Wow. I'm utterly astonished at how ignorant some people are, believing cats are wild animals, and the outdoors is their natural habitat. Just... wow.
Cats have been domesticated fro millions of years. While their ancestors have all the instincts and then some to make it without caregivers, domestic cats have LOST many of these instincts through an evolving process. Cats kept indoors do not use these such instincts, and with gradual breeding, instincts are bread out of the family line. There are many pet cats today that would die within a couple weeks outdoors, and at the same time, there are also many that would turn to being feral. You cannot make the assumption that a particular cat should live outoodrs or not, it depends on the cat! And while you are being this considerate, should you not be more concerned for the cat's well-being and not take any chances, rather than tossing it out unsupervised.
You have the right idea keeping it inside. I think it is simple that when you have a pet, you need to do everything in your power to keep it safe. Letting it out alone is a lot like leaving a small (but not stupid) child alone outside. There is a chance something tragic will happen.
There is nothign too difficult to adjusting cats to beoming indoor 100% of the time. It will just take patience, and some tolerance. If he does cry, it is not because you are being terrible to him (remember it is for his own good) but it is simply because he is used to going out, and doesn't understand why he cannot. A little bit of teaching comes in, and plenty of attention and treats. Read thes articles:

exchange into the cat an outdoor cat with the deceased proprietor? If it was then a minimum of a pair of months so the cat knows that your apartment is now place of abode. i in my opinion would guard it as a eternal indoor cat pondering the reality that indoor cats are not uncovered to the illnesses that out of doors or indoor/exterior cats are. they are able to return to be pastimes for cruel human beings and via diverse animals like domestic canine or foxes. they might wander into visitors chasing a malicious software or butterfly.consequently they have an prolonged greater healthful existence as an indoor cat. I surely have observed a pair of grownup cats from shelters and besides strays. All tailored good to the indoor way of existence. They hardly attempt to venture exterior now. in simple terms my opinion and likewise the vet that I artwork for. He says the very equivalent ingredient. All his cats are interior terrific cats. desire this helped you to elect what to do alongside with your new kitty.

We have only had one cat who was ever an outdoor cat for a long period of time. Just keep him inside it will be fine. He got out at one point for 3 days and both my wife and I were hysterical. The only thing we ever did was let our cats out on our balcony/deck. That seemed to placated him. He never whined to go out or anything. He knew it was better in the house :). The other cat we had at the time who was an indoor cat all her life was the one who wanted to go out on the deck.
For the record nationally indoor cats live twice as long as outdoor cats.

It will take your cat some time to adjust to being indoors when he's used to his freedom. There's not much you can do to help him until the run is ready.I'm sad that all cats aren't safe out of doors because of the horrible world it is now.

My cat just recently went missing for 3 days and we were worried sick. We found in an a barn stuck and unable to get home. You cat might have been in the same situation. If he is anything like my cat, he loves the outdoors, and you cant deny him that. We were a little hesitant to let our cat back out too, but the first time we did, he came right back. Our cat has toys and a laser light, but its not the same as there natural habitat. If he loves you he will always come home. :)

It is your choice to keep your cat inside.
You just get to deal with the repercutions your cat decides are appropriate.
Expect the cat to try to escape if it is used to being out.
Your comment about Pit bulls is rude and inconsiderate of those that are anti bsl which is a majority of this section.

There are others but I am not going to bombard you.
I havent, but I know many that have. I cried when one of my guinea pigs died. She was the one that trusted me and would let me pick her up without giving a fight.
my grandmother lives in the middle of nowhere and lets her cats in and out.
Keep him inside and just deal with his rants about how much he hates you.
It will be awhile before he gives up. He may resort to biting you and dashing out the door when you or family leaves.

he just needs time to adjust to being kept indoors. i would probably be a good idea to let him out every few hours though.

a cat run....
i feel so sorry for the cat, they are outdoor creatures, they shouldn't be forced to stay indoors 24/7
