it seems youre trying to find an objective list of most important rock bands, and you seem to think the beatles should be on top... even lennon himself said the beatles werent that important, why arent their influences more important than them? anyway, heres a list of what i would say are some of the most important bands and im not going to number them
the beatles
captain beefheart
frank zappa
bad brains
fugazi
beach boys
pink floyd
jimi hendrix
buddy holly
sonic youth
there are just too many that are important in so many different ways, ten is just not enough
as a matter of fact i do know what strawberry fields is, and i know lennon said he felt that song was recorded terribly. i think that and across the universe are two of his best songs, but he also said that one ended up terrible. he also stated his solo songs stood up to the best beatles songs... he was asked about the beatles being the best and replied 'well, if it was the best, so what?'. the jesus thing was a joke, he saw the media as a joke; but regardless, the songs are timeless and they were innovative which does equate to being very important

by the way the Beatles were known as a pop band for the first part of their career, it was groups like The Stones & Yardbirds who started the rock beat, which you can look up anywhere.
