Can someone who speaks French please help me?
Hi,
I am making my girlfriend (who is French) a "French" themed vegetarian dinner for valentines and I want to impress her by telling her what it is in French. Can you please help me with the words and pronunciation? (Of course, if you have any other menu ideas that would be GREATLY appreciated)
- Cheese platter with grapes & chutney
- Asparagus crepes with Mornay Sauce
- Strawberries, Bananas, Apples, and Pears and Dark Chocolate Fondue
Thanks!!

If you want, you can prepare a small menu card with the following written (the style of menu writing is very much like what you would see in a French restaurant), and set on the table where she'll be seating. Not only you won't have to worry too much about the pronounciations, but she would also get a souvenir to remember the evening by ;)
~ L'Entrée ~
Assiette de fromages, raisins et chutney
~ Le Plat ~
Crêpes aux asperges, sauce Mornay
~ Le Dessert ~
Fraises, bananes, pommes et poires, en fondue au chocolat noir
May I suggest something? Usually in a French meal, cheese is served between the main course and the dessert. It's not common to serve cheese as starter, unless it's grilled goat's cheese with rocket salad (chevre grillé, salade de la roquette), or something like that.
Some vegetarian options for starters that are not too complicated:
- tomato crostini (Pains grillés, tomate et basilique) : cut tomatoes, remove seeds and dice - get ripe plum tomatoes if possible as they're usually more flavoursome, chop up a few leaves of basil, mix together with good quality sea salt, freshly ground pepper and let to sit for a while at the side; in the mean time, slice baguette/ciabatta about 1 inch thick, on one side sprinkle some olive oil over, rub some garlic on if wished, and grill in oven at medium heat until lightly toasted, about 7-10 mins; put the toasted bread on plate and dish the tomato mix over it, garnish with some whole basil leaves and serve.
- chickpea, mint, orange and feta salad (Salade de pois chiche, menthe, orange et feta) : http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/5123/chickpea-m...
If you know she likes particular food, or particular ingredient, if you'll let me know, maybe I can find a recipe that suits. I like cooking and there are tons of recipe books at home that I can consult. Of course, trying to keep them simple so that you won't be frantically cooking up a storm that evening :)

Plateau de fromage avec raisins et chutney
Crêpes aux asperges accompagnées d'une sauce Mornay
Fondue au chocolat noir avec fraises, bananes, pommes et poires
As for the phonetic sorry but I don't have the good keys on my keyboard :) ... But why don't you look it up in a dictionnary and you'll get the phonetic translation...
Hope that helped though
