I just watched the link that Mild Mannered provided. (Thanks MM) that was Truly bizarre! Whether that was a hoax or not, Letterman did a great job with him!

I'm hoping it was a hoax & Joaquin is not really that much of a freak!

I think he was, he was not acting normal. He looked hurt a few times by letterman's remarks and that stung me a bit, I thought they were a bit unkind personally but I guess Joaquin wasn't being a very good guest either.

None the less it was painful to watch and I wouldn't have gone as far as letterman in terms of his jokes, I mean he doesn't know what Joaquin was going through in his life, I thought he lacked empathy and perspicacity, his jokes were uncalled for and in no way was Joaquin being rude, he was just dazed, there is a difference...

Anyway, it probably runs a lot deeper than most of us think and I don't like Casey Affleck's plans, I bet he is up to no good with his stupid documentary. Gosh if I was Joaquin's girlfriend me and Casey would have had a hell of a talk...

He does have a history with alcoholism that is attributed to his getting into Cash's character by drinking like him. At the premier of the movie he asked a reporter, "Do I have a large frog in my hair? Something’s crawling out of my scalp. I’m not worried about the looks. I’m worried about the sensation of my brain being eaten. What did you ask me?" He landed in rehab after that incident (see link below). Seems like there is a pattern with him, acting very weird = on drugs.

I hope he gets help, he seems like he is a brilliant man who's been through a lot, and probably feels like no matter what he does he can never escape the shadow of River and the effect his death had on him. I lost a boyfriend to a relapse/OD and have never gotten over the guilt and what ifs. Its got to be that much worse if your going through the whole thing under the microscope of fame.

I think that if it was a joke the Letterman camp would have said something. That they have said nothing indicates to me that it was not a joke and

I think he's mess up on drugs and probably also suffers from a bit of depression. He obviously wasn't in his right mind which was disappointing. I was hoping to see him have a fun interview.

He's been a great actor but his rapping sucks! Unfortunately, if he's so serious about it, he's bound to learn the hard way that he doesn't rap well and then he's likely to get depressed even further. I see suicide or accidental overdose in his future. Let's hope he gets an intervention and rehab before it goes that far.

We already lost River and Heath Ledger.....it'd stink to loose Joaquin as well.

Joaquin if you read this: You have a lot of fans concerned about you. Please seek help.

I suspect it was a joke, but hard to say for sure. Was pretty funny to watch though. If it wasn't a joke, then I say he was definitely on drugs - I posted the video here:

i think of he became into, he became into no longer appearing everyday. He regarded harm some circumstances by using letterman's comments and that stung me slightly, i presumed they have been slightly unkind for my section yet i assume Joaquin wasn't being an extremely stable visitor the two. None the fewer it became into painful to video reveal and that i does no longer have long previous so a good distance as letterman in terms of his jokes, I advise he would not understand what Joaquin became into dealing with in his existence, i presumed he lacked empathy and perspicacity, his jokes have been uncalled for and not in any respect became into Joaquin being impolite, he became into purely dazed, there's a difference... besides, it in all probability runs lots deeper than maximum individuals think of and that i do in comparison to Casey Affleck's plans, I guess he's as much as no stable together with his stupid documentary. Gosh if i became into Joaquin's female chum me and Casey would have had a hell of a communication...

I don't think he was. Joaquin Phoenix was just plain old stupid last night, obviously not happy to be on Letterman to promote his movie. However, he had no choice as he was contract-bound to do it. That explains the bizarre behavior.

No. I think it's all just an act. He's putting on a show and acting weird just to get attention. If you watch him in the interview really closely, you can tell that he's trying not laugh the whole time...and that's why he's wearing the sunglasses. He doesn't want people to see how he's just faking the whole thing.

This whole rapping thing won't last long either. I hope he goes back to acting because he is so talented. And sexy...when he's being normal and not growing a beard.

my friend was in the audience and apparently he was joking around with letterman in between the commercial breaks, like laughing and patting each other on the backs and stuff. So i think its a joke or something like that.
