I own and operate a paintball field and have dealt with this parent situation many times before. Just explain to them this isn't the "darkhorse" sport that everyone thinks it is. Paintball is one of the top 3 largest extreme sports in the entire world and evey weekend is played by millions world wide. By insurance standards paintballs is by far one of the safest sports out there and that includes be safer than tennis, soccer, football, basketball, skateboarding, ect. The bad reputation most paintballers get from people that don't know better comes from people that don't actually play but go to walmart and purchase a cheap marker and cheap paintballs and then go and either vandilize public property or play without proper gear and eye protection and chronographs which is very dangerous. Take your parents to a local paintball store and have them give your parents a good run down on the sport and its activities then go to a well ran paintball field (ones with refs and proper netting) and have them watch how safety is the biggest concern of all the refs and the owner. Paintball is one of the best team, self esteem and physical building sports out there. I've played since 1993 and have played just about every weekend since then. Try going to a local magazine store and pick up the Action pursuit games magazine and flip through it with your folks and read the articles and show them how serious this good sport is and the safety that follows. This isn't just a sport where you can shoot another person with a simulated weapon, try to stay away from that mind set. Best of luck and take care

For a begginer then either get an Ion but i have an 05 Spyder Pilot ACS and it is great for begginers and it has Semi Auto, 3 burst, Six burst, and full auto although only semi is legal. I would go a couple of times before i would get a gun though. A bad thing a new player does is go out and buy a high end gun and it ends up making them worse. My Spyder teaches you acuracy with a good rate of fire. Good luck and I hope this helps!
