Do the top universities require four years of foreign language study in high school?

I heard from my guidance counselor that it's hard to get into competitive schools if you didn't take four years of a foreign language in High School. I've taken 3 years of Spanish since 8th grade, and I wasn't going to continue with it, but now I'm worried that maybe I should.

There is not a single college in the United states that REQUIRES 4 years. But a great deal of your competition will have 4 years of foreign language, so it's suggested that you either take 4 years, or try to score well on the SAT subject test in your language.

REQUIRED is the main be conscious. Required is extra effective than much less 2. that's sufficient to have a elementary appreciation for the language that's what those extreme-leveled universities choose. i for my section would take 5 years. I took spanish in 8th grade (after taking a placement attempt to work out if i became into even proficient sufficient in english), so for my senior year i'm taking AP Spanish Language, which could be the 5th year of spanish. for my section, that's uncomplicated to take electives alongside with spanish in extreme college. yet for me i choose to circulate into pre-med coursework. So I took as quickly as extra effective technological information classification. And while you're pondering those powerhouse universities, i assume you're doing a huge extra effective-curricular classification which for me became into band. So there is going yet another non-compulsory. Hmm, so that's achieveable to produce different electives yet i'd prioritize. If there's a classification which you have a keenness for, and you decide on that non-compulsory credit particularly of third and 4th year spanish, i'd do it. enable's purely desire that classification you like will help your utility! stable luck

2 is required, most want 3, but if you plan on doing the IB diploma you need 4 years of a foreign language.

For colleges, the more the merrier. It shows your dedication and looks great if you can speak another language well. It is very beneficial for jobs too; stick with it!!!
