Pinoys abroad... How do you beat the so-called "Post Philippine Vacation Blues"?
I know most other non-Filipino people don't take this as such a big deal, but I know most of us Filipinos living/working abroad suffer from this.
I just came back a couple of days ago from an extended 7 week vacation in the Philippines. Every single day in those 7 weeks were pure heaven. Now that I'm back here in snow-covered England, I feel like crapp.
So, besides visiting YAP, how do you cope with the first week of down-time after coming from a great Philippine vacation?

I've also just come from a month's stay in Marikina City. It is only my first week back here in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
What I did, I brought with me my 160GB backup unit to the Philippines. Whenever I am sober, I am copying DVD movies or Western TV serials, into that portable hard disk. It is comparable, I think, to that ant storing up food for winter.
Now, I have so many movies with me I am finding it hard to digest my food because I do nothing else but watch Gregory House, the diagnostician, or those poor guys in Lost series, or those miserable crews in Galactica ....

I feel ya mate I feel ya. I go through the same thing. I wasn't raised there but I'm filipino too raised in Australia. I go there often for months on end and I can relate to what you mean by every day is heaven. For me mate I make the most of my time there and take millions of photos of my trip, the people I met and spent time with, places I saw and etc. Photos for me keep the memories alive and dare I say it make me an even more determined son of a ***** to work my butt off to save up and come back with avengance lol so to say. Another thing I do is learn some recipes of my favourite food and try mastering them back home.
As nice as the Philippines is you musn't forget there is a reason why your life is there and at the same time you can be alittle heavy in your heart because you miss the Pines but you must also remain focused on your reason for being there. I to miss many many things especially my girl but having said all that I can be strong for the time I'm away and focus on bettering myself and being the best I can be for when that magic moment comes and your on a plane going back to the Pines.
I put all the Kodak moments of my time there all over my wall so when I wake up in the morning I have good reason to remember why I'm so lucky to be able to go and have that special time there when many others cannot. Cheer up abit mate as I'm sure its not doing you any favours. Just remember the good times had and the many good times that will be and remain focused. I promised myself one day I'm going to change my life in order to spend 6 months there and 6 months here every year so thats my goal and I remained focused working hard on that. You should find your reason and do the same!
Feel alright!

Look at the photos/videos you have taken during your stay in the country.
Weekends, go to chat with family/ friends online. Communicate through emails daily. Ask them to send you pictures.
Read books or magazines, see a movie, clean the house, go out, just keep yourself busy.
Get a girlfriend there in England (if you are single).
Haven't you a Filipino friend there ?
Edit: To emartel0 : Only a true Filipino will miss his country,
even if it is just a dump to someone like you. But we call it
home.

You can't really get over it, you just slide from the blues & into brief moments of forgetfulness & back again, sometimes up until you go back there again.
So all you can do is to go back into the routine of your English life.
But these tips might help, or it might just bring back more of the blues.
Eat -- especially those you brought back from there.
Sleep -- sleep longer that is.
Excercise -- use your imagination for more creative ways to excercise.
Watch Filipino shows &/or movies.
Watch &/or edit your vacations videos & photos.
YAP.

So how's heaven?
The same reason I prefer to work in China than anywhere else outside Pinas. I can have a Pinas holiday anytime during weekends if I miss the place.
Why not let those guys over there to send regular videos?

I can only imagine. I haven't vacationed there in 26 years.

this is one way: think of your relatively comfortable life in england and compare it to the arduous grind of everyday life here in the philippines. imagine if you have to live here in the philippines, would you still think heavenly thoughts? i doubt it. for most of us filipinos, life here is not paradise.

Call home as much as you want.
Enjoin loved ones to bombard you with loving thoughts and messages every moment they could spare.
Request them to forward pictures of familiar people and places and keep you posted with just every happening.
Idk if these help but I hope they will.
Pinas loves you! Hope this makes you feel better. INGAT!!!

chat with relatives and friends constantly. I'm guessing it's the people you're missing, foremost, and not so much the place itself.

There is no cure. However, preventing future recurrence of the malady is super simple--don't go back.
