Computer issues. Help?

PC problem.. any ideas? Turned it on, ran it's normal start up. got icons on desk top, all seemed normal. but click on any icon and nothing happens.. click on yahoo, does nothing, click on embarq (our isp) and nothing!! just stays on icon page..

Update:

I believe it is the pc. not the internet. can not even bring up the control panel. Can not do off line task either.

2 things 1 good news 2 bad news

1 the good news is that it is a software / internet problem so you wont have to open up your pc

2 bad news it seems you pc is freezing or your internet is down . try a virus scan if it will let you if not see if it will run in safe mode. the easy way to get it into safe mode is to pull the plug but dont do this to often as it can cause probelms.

    hope this helps

ps can anything non internet e.g. games run ?

What happens if you right-click? It could be that a coworker or a household member was playing a joke on you. It may be that your mouse buttons have been reversed.

Go to Windows Control Panel and look for the Mouse icon or link in the Hardware menu. Within the Mouse settings, reset the primary and secondary button configuration by removing the checkmark in the box.
