Why does the team scored on in Rugby Union (drop goal, try, ect.) have to kick off?

Pardon my ignorance. I am an American Football fan. I am used to the team that has scored kicking off.

because in american football, you would be completely stupid to punt the ball on first down because you have 4 downs to move the ball 10 yards and its harder to turn the ball over which is a disadvantage to the defense so in american football, the team who scores kicks off

in rugby union, you have unlimited plays, but its harder to move the ball down field because all you can do is run and your team mates cant block you, which makes it a disadvantage to the offense, so basically it comes down to advantages and disadvantages
