What can I write about for my Biology coursework?

I found the topics of diseases interesting, so they seem like good choices. Alternatively you could do genetics - or even genetic diseases such as haemophilia. This is quite good as it's a sex-linked genetic condition, and Queen Victoria was a carrier - so there's quite a bit of research done on it, as it then spread through quite a few of the royal families in Europe through her children.

For my AS level coursework I have to write on a topic of biological interest, I have thought of either doing Parkinson's disease or HIV. Which should I choose out of these or could you give me an idea on anything else I could write about

My best bet would be HIV as there is a lot of unprotected sex occurring throughout the world and is a serious and wide spread disease. Also poverty stricken countries contraceptives are hard to come by. As a statistics under age sex, under age pregnancies are all good points to include. Also include statistics for the birth population. I would try to get birth population statistics for different countries and there input to the rate of HIV sufferers. With this info I would draw comparisons. Include plentiful diagrams, pie-chatrs, bar charts. These will help in comparing different statistics and your lecturer would give points on presentation.

Parkinson's is a good one to do, because you can mention stem cells as a possible cure, and also genetic screening etc as things to help prevent it in the first place, HIV on the other hand is not as easy to say how they are trying to cure it because it is such a different thing.

The most up and coming disease is Diabetes this has two layers type 1 and type 2. and there is a lot of information too be found, Insulin taken, or medication depending on severity.

I suggest that you pick HIV because there is more information about it. Parkinson's disease is not communicable, so there is less information in the popular press about it.

I think Cystic Fibrosis and the way it is transmitted is an interesting subject.

Do Heart Disease - it's the biggest killer.
