Cocoa garden mulch can be deadly to dogs?
Has anyone heard about this? Garden season is coming up and Snopes says it is true. Help me find out and spread the word.
It is my understanding that it is marketed by Hershey and is a by product of chocolate production.

and dogs do love the smell of chocolate..... it's by the size of the dog and how much is eaten.... a small dog is in trouble with only a few bites.... a big dog would have to eat a pound of it to get sick... that kind of thing....

whatever, it's just not good to have around your house if you have a dog.... not that the dog would run over and start gobbling on it... but a bored pup will look for something to play with... and the stuff does smell like chocolate, which they're used to smelling on YOU, or in the house.... no idea that it's not good for them....

It is true and normally there is a warning on the bag.
Cocoa shell contains the naturally occurring substance theobromine. If eaten by dogs, this can be very harmful and if enough is ingested it can be fatal.
