When installing Windows XP Professional, is it important to have two partitions on a single hard drive?

In the past, I have seen Computers with Windows XP that have two partition. Some People like to have two partition, and others like to have one partition. I myself like to have one big C: Drive. So therefore one partition is ok with me! But why do some People like to have have two partitions in a 32 bit Windows XP?

I myself use the professional edition.

Some people have two partitions so that if the system is infected with a virus the data in the second partition won't be infected.

Also, some people have *three* partitions with one XP, one Linux and one FAT partition that both systems can read.

Some people have more that one operating system ie. Windows XP and Windows Vista other reasons are you might want another partition to backup your files to (in case if you were to get a virus or something).

    2 main reasons,

1: If you store all of your bulk data on the drive (partition) that you boot to it can slow your computer down a lot. By storing music/games etc on the other drive it will improve speed.

2: in case your drive corrupts you have a backup from which to retrieve data.

    Use one partition.

I have used a second partition only to save a Ghost image of the C drive for guaranteed quick recovery.

Some people like to have multiple operating systems on their computer, to hide more personal files. You can actually hide things(Like photos, videos, files, documents, porn, personal information, tax information) pretty well on them.
