Help, Jazz music for bass?
I just started playing the bass around a year ago and i'm thinking about trying out for my school's jazz band. I would really really really appreciate it if some one could tell me a good website where I can find some songs to practice.

Jaco's work, though brilliant, stepped beyond the traditional role of the bass in jazz, so while he is a bassist that you should be familiar with, his work is not the ideal starting point. The bassists you should be listening to are Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, and Ray Brown. You'll find them all over many albums recorded from the late 50s and on. Pay attention the groove and note choices of their bass lines.
Some method books to look into are Rufud Reid's "The Evolving Bassist," Bruce Gertz's "Mastering the Bass, Vol 1 & 2," as well as the classic "Ray Brown's Bass Method." A good website for you to check out is Jamey Arbersold's www.jazzbooks.com. You'll find many bass methods available for sale, and many compilations of transcribed bass lines, as well as other jazz resources.
