What laptop would you recommend?

It needs to have internet capability (only really used for emails, not much surfing and no downloading music etc. It needs to have sufficient memory for a large photo collection and word processor.

    Toshiba laptops are on the top of my list, but, I have been looking into the new EEEPC's. For the large photo collection, I highly recommend storing the files on a portable drive. 8GB USB drives work great along with SD cards and such. When you fill it up with pictures, buy a new one and fill that one too and so on.

    I would recommend the one I got last winter, which is a Dell Studio 1500. It came with 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard disc drive, and works great with wireless internet access. It does come with Windows Vista Home Premium, but it's the 64-bit version and with 4GB of RAM Vista isn't the p.i.a. that it is on other machines with less memory.
