Is is werid/suspicious if I guy tells you he's not a phone person?

There's this guy I studied abroad with about 2 years ago and we've kept in contact since then but mostly through texting and facebook because we live in different states.  I love talking on the phone but he told me up front he's not a phone person plus he's trying to go to med school and from what I know about him when he gets really involved in something, he's got tunnel vision, he won't see anything else.  Which means there's times when I don't hear from him.  Is this a reason to be suspicious of him or is it just how some people are? My mom thinks it a bit strange and is adamant that I don't talk to him anymore.

Not at all. I'm not a phone person either. Once I get comfortable around someone, I can talk forever. But phones have a funny way of shutting me up.

Some people just hate talking on the phone, for you get the awkward silence if the convo goes nowhere. Now it is not weird and really e-mails and computer are different for he could be doing something else at the same time as writing to you. He cannot do that on the phone, like you said he is focused on one thing, so most likely that is what he does.

It is not weird, in fact those who are addicted to the phone are the ones who are weird. If in Med school tunnel vision is a great characteristic.

He might not have a lot of money and is embarrassed to tell you that because he can't afford minutes for his cell or can't pay for long distance charges and doesn't want you to call him all the time because he wouldn't feel right.
